In 1994, Herstreet’s founder, Léonie Couture, was armed only with the strength of her convictions. Yet she managed to convey her dream of a world where all would have their place.

Each year since then, as many as 130, 150 and later 200 women living in the street and women in distress have benefited from our services.

The 2002-03 campaign was a success and raised nearly $210,000. The new night shelter at the Olga House is operating at full capacity, and the results are tangible.

In 2003-04, we are asking for support to achieve lasting changes in the lives of the women who find shelter with us.

They have taken the first steps…let’s work with them over the long term.

The opening of the Olga House has broadened our horizons. For participants, the change has been immediate: they have access to the facility at all times, day or night. The range of services and activities is also more complete, although still in development.

The women to whom we offer shelter have moved forward. Our goal now is to maintain our housing capacity and to accompany each participant on her journey toward lasting change.

For its 2003-04 campaign, Herstreet has set a goal as lofty as these new opportunities for women. What will the $488,000 we hope to raise be used for?
– First, the money will be used for basic services and therapeutic activities.
– In addition, it will ensure that a sufficient number of competent workers are present at all times.
– Depending on the campaign’s success, the money will enable us to develop constructive community reintegration programs.

A campaign council representing a broad social alliance is currently being set up. The official launch of the campaign will take place in September. Stay tuned by visiting our What’s new section regularly.

The 2002-03 edition of our annual funding campaign ended March 31. Thanks to lots of hard work, we were able to raise nearly $210,000.

In addition to the direct effect on our services, last year’s campaign demonstrated that an ever expanding support network is taking shape.

Who are Herstreet’s partners? Herstreet’s partners include a variety of individuals, governments, religious organizations, social clubs, businesses, foundations and unions who are moved by the tenor of our message: “Social responsability and solidarity can be driven by the same spirit and energy that cause us to care about a loved one.”

Institutional donations of more than $200 have been listed on the Honour Roll of the 2002-03 campaign. Montreal Herstreet thanks each donor for offering her or his own level of generous support.
